Translation:

However, since he had come to respect that elderly man who was an old revolutionary comrade he wanted to talked with him.

However, since the elderly man kept to himself Poe Tha did not dare to fraternize with him. One day, from one side of the fence the old man called out to Poe Tha, saying "Hey kid, please come here for a moment." He reached out and handed over two big white and plump guavas that were in his hand and asked, "What day is today? Do you know?"

Poe Tha, after shaking his head remembered that because today was Independence Day, school was closed and with a stutter he replied "Inde... ah... Independence Day grandfather." Looking at him with a piercing glare the elderly man further asked "Do your father and mother know as you do?" Not knowing what would be correct to answer he stood rigid.

"Ah... I want to know. But never mind. It's correct to give it no value. Therefore, we'll not celebrate, of course," He said.

Poe Tha looked out around the house of the elderly man and woman and saw a red flag fluttering at the top of a bamboo stalk.

"I'll celebrate grandfather. Isn't it still possible? Tonight when it passes 6:00 you'll put the flag away, won't you?"

After rummaging through his father's drawers he found a national flag. Poe Tha tied the flag to the top of a bamboo pole and stuck it in the ground in front of his house. While the wind blew here and there...
