Naypyidaw, December 23

The Overseas Worker Migration Committee issued a policy on December 9th in order for women to be able to work abroad.

It is known that according to that policy that five or more women workers can go and work at factories, offices, and work units abroad but permission is not granted to do domestic help, entertainment and cleaning work, and presently the intention is to send [women workers] only to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

However, while going to work, it is necessary that women workers understand the work invitation letter from the receiving country and read in detail the employment contract which the employer and worker agree upon so that can experience according to the labour law of the relevant country and so that Myanmar embassies and labour officials in the relevant country are able to give protection. Only upon understanding and accepting should [they] to sign the contract. After signing the contract women workers must tale a photocopy of the contract and need keep it in their possession and they need to not violate that contract, and if the employer violates the contract, if [the worker] complains to the Myanmar Ministry of Labour, and to the labour attaches with the Myanmar embassy in the relevant country, and full protection will be given.
