Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand whose work permits expire on January 29, 2012 will not be included in the nationality verification process starting from the start of March and will be deported, said U Naing Htun.

"Those workers who can be deported at the end of February 2012 are most Myanmar workers. There are about 270,000 Myanmar migrant workers [who may be deported],"
he said.

In the nationality verification process, concerning migrant workers from neighbouring countries who arrived and are working illegally in Thailand, [they must] provide evidence of being nationals of the relevant countries.

While revealing the aforementioned process, although there are 832,255 workers from three neighbouring countries who have the right to be included, it is known from the released statistics that up until December 31, 2011 there were only 631,773 individuals from the three neighbouring countries who had done [the process].

"Therefore, over three hundred thousand workers who have not yet finished [the registration process] will face deportation. Therefore, [workers] should not go to Thailand this time to work illegally," said U Win Naing Htun.

Therefore, with the two-country plan from the Ministry of Labour, according to the plan to send new workers to Thailand they should go legally. In order that there is no increase in deportation and human trafficking resulting from [migrants] going and working illegally, [migrants] should should systematically follow the deportation process of the two-country plan. Other than that, in order that people who face deportation are included in the process to send new legal workers and become legal [workers in Thailand], [they] should re-due [the registration process], [he] said. In order to be able to provide evidence to Myanmar national workers and to coordinate with Thailand, five organisations will be dispatched into Thailand outside of the Tachilek, Myawaddy and Kaw Thaung border camps and [these] will issue temporary passports. In order to be able to conduct the aforementioned processes, starting from December 18, 2011 an official from the Ministry of Labour at the Myanmar embassy in Thailand will be delegated joint responsibility. Among Myanmar national workers [in Thailand], over 600,000 are holding temporary passports, he said.
