History of Myanmar's labour movement (35/505)

Translation:

After deciding, taking about 2 years preparation time the Socialist Labour Party and other progressive worker associations joined together in forming conflict committees. On May 1st, 1886, in the major cities of Chicago, which was the made the centre, New York, Baltimore, Washington, Pigury [?], Cincinnati, Saint Louis, Pittsburgh, and Detroit, protests for the 8-hour workday were carried out in unity. As a result of the government and big capitalists, who had come prepared, ruthlessly firing on the protestors who were peacefully demonstrating with discipline, in order to crush these labour protests, 6 workers were killed and hundreds of workers were violently injured. While thousands of suffering workers were gathering and peacefully conducting a people's assembly on May 4th at the Haymarket Square regarding that action by the government and big capitalists, an armed military unit and police units opened fire a second time and 4 workers and 7 police were killed. Regarding the aforementioned issues, 4 labour leaders: 1) Parsons, 2) Spies, 3) Fischer, and 4) Engel were sentenced to execution for the charge of planning to instigate unrest and the government gave out punishments such as imprisonment, fines and deportation to the remaining active left-wing labour leaders.

Based on the aforementioned bloody workers' conflicts, with systematic preparations for another 8-hour workday struggle and in order to continue to be involved in the struggle, it was decided and promulgated at the American Federation of Labour conference in 1888 in Saint Louis, that starting from starting from 1890, May 1st would become designated as the day of worker struggle (May Day).

Starting from 1890, as the American workers' 8-hour workday struggles gradually became stronger, the general council assembly of the First International (International Workingmen's Association) held in Masale [Basle?] in 1869...
