Ideological extremists

The image below is a reprint of a satirical (သရော်) 1950 cartoon drawn by U Ba Gyan. The Myanmar language text below the image (not shown in the scan below) reads "The cartoon illustration of the artist U Ba Gyan who mocked the parties and ideologies in 1950." The image was scanned from a reprint included on p.179 of volume 1 the 1990 Myanmar language history text ပြည်တွင်းသောင်းကျန်းမှုသမိုင်း (The History of Revolt within the Country).

In the image, the individual on the left is marked marked "လက်ျာ" (right wing) while the individual on the right is "လက်ဝဲ" (left wing). The individual in the middle (representing newly independent Myanmar) is saying "Heh! Phyaukseit, help me out. With which side would it be good for me to be?". The text in the top right hand side of the cartoon reads "1950 - Mocking the right wing and left wing extremists".

Tatmadaw cartoon

The image below is a reprint of a 1952 cartoon drawn by U Ba Gyan. An English translation is subsequently provided in a version I have edited. The Myanmar language text below the image reads "The year 1952 the plan to not split people and the Tatmadaw (U Ba Gyan)". The image was scanned from a reprint included on p.180 of Volume 1 the 1990 Myanmar language history text ပြည်တွင်းသောင်းကျန်းမှုသမိုင်း (The History of Revolt within the Country).
