International Workers' Day (May Day)
It is known that May Day is the most famous major landmark in the history of the international workers' movement. From 1860 until today, every year on May 1st, around the world, advanced labour unions and working class parties, the governments and the people in Socialist countries with working class authorities, and the people and governments that are marching towards socialism, celebrate May Day memorials as the symbol of the labour movement. On that day, duties such as remembering historical events from the past regarding matters of the oppressed working class, taking lessons from experiences and effectively advancing current [labour] organisation and conflicts, and critically assessing the present general situation and setting down future works and strategies are carried out. In that, regarding forces like right wing unions and reformist political parties that float along with the capitalist system, although they inevitably or according to the situation celebrate May Day, the original meaning of May Day is concealed and it is regarded as just amusement.
Although many people know that May Day started in America, as many years have past the history and tradition of May Day have nearly vanished in America. Today only the progressive American forces that are continuing the fight against the imperialist capitalist system with faithful hope for socialism hold memorials for [and preserve the tradition of] May Day.
