Ngaba (20)



This translation of Maung Htin's Ngaba covers the text on page 21, as shown in the scanned image below. The first sentence begins on the previous page with the words "ထို အချိန်အခါမျိုး၌ ငဘ၏ သွေးချင်းသားချင်း ဖြစ် သော တို့ဗမာ".


Vocabulary:

ဝမ်နည်းပက်လက် ။ (adv.) In great sorrow; in utter devastation
နည်းတူ ။ (conj.) like; just as
လေပြည် ။ a light breeze
ဆော် ။ (of breeze) to blow gently
မြူး ။ to frolic; gambol; play
ဖြူး ။ (of breeze) to waft gently
ဝင့် ။ to wave

Translation:

When Ngaba knew that our compatriot Burmese farmers who were Ngaba'a fellow countrymen were in great sorrow like Ngaba, following after being intensely saddened together his mind happened to become well relieved. After the three people had conferred together the group split up. Also, while Ngaba was gazing into the distance he was left behind. His eye’s arrived at Haury’s rice pile. A little light morning breeze was blowing into [the pile] and playing. The three ray We Burmese big upright flag on Haury’s rice pile was wafting gently and waving.

If Ngaba had known he was in the company of his fellow countrymen who shared his sadness, he would have been relieved that he could merrily be sad together with them.
