Banmaw Tin Aung (1)



This post contains the first page (p.61 in the volume I have) of the short story "Saw Khin and his livelihood" by Banmaw Tin Aung.

အသက်မွေးဝန်းကျောင်း ။ livelihood
ဝတ်ကြောင် ။ lay life
ရုန်း ။ (of draught animals) pull; struggle; struggle free (from danger, entanglement, etc)
အများအပြား many
ဝတ်ကြောင် colourful lay attire (used here as a metaphor for human life)
ဝေ့လည်လည် in a roundabout way
ခါ to shake off, brush off

Translation

All people in the whole of humanity in which we are included must carry out two pertinent responsibilities. It is not possible to flee to a place where those two responsibilities can be avoided. Struggling to be free of this human life many people end up coming right back in the end in a roundabout way. After that they must exhautedly carry the burdens that they cannot in any way brush off from on their shoulders.

People in this great big world must carry out the duty of work for food, clothing and shelter in order to live. People who do not work cannot eat in any way. [People] must work to be able eat. [People] must work for clothing and shelter. House and clothing...
