DKBA loans

The DKBA negotiates to borrow 300,000,000 Kyat from the [Myanma] Agricultural Development Bank.

It is known that the Development Karen Buddhist Association [sic.] (DKBA)
has negotiated to take another financial loan, which is a special kind of substitution loan, from the [Myanma] Agriculture Development Bank.

Regarding the present lending of 300,000,000 Kyat [approx. US $362,757] by the Myanma Agriculture Development Bank to the DKBA, the interest rate on that loan is not the regular interest rates of 17 per cent per year, or 12.5 per cent per year, but is rather a rate of 0.5 per cent.

"Since the interest is extremely cheap, [the DKBA] has come to negotiate [a loan for] approximately another 300,000,000 Kyat," said a person with responsibility from a branch of the Latha Bank of the Myanma Agricultural Development Bank.

The DKBA accepted reformation as a border guard force and is a strong armed organisation. The loans from the Myanma Agricultural Development Bank are divided into annual funds, development funds, border development funds, special project funds, and special funds.

In that [loan], annual funds and development funds have increased yearly and in 2009-10, 93,489 million [Kyat] was assigned, and in 2010-11 the assigned funds were up to 190,934 million, said the individual from the aforementioned bank.
