The NLD is currently giving agricultural development training courses to farmers
and providing support meetings with those working [for] the emergence of farmer unions.

NLD party members are included among the people working for the emergence of farmer unions.

"In order to truly practice a democratic system, the emergence of these kinds of associations that are able to protect the rights of farmers and workers is necessary; [and] discussions with people who are eager for the emergence unions or associations (however they are called); [and] providing assistance are are necessary."

It is said in the lists of the National Project and Economic Development Ministry that according to the Myanmar census which was collected until December 31, 2009, the population is over 59 million, over 70 per cent of which are farmers, and [Myanmar] is an agricultural country.
