The president says [Myanmar] will transform [to] a market economy system
Yangon, March 30

On March 30th, during the first session of the Union Parliament the new national president U Thein Sein, in the first speech he delivered to the country after he took the Kyan-sit-tha oath to become president, [said that] Myanmar's economic policy will be to lay down the structure for the practice of a market economy system and for the success of economic works and to carry out the reforms of a market economy system that are observed in a practical manner so that the market economy system will clearly shine.

"From our perspective [we] aim at the development of the country and people and [therefore] should open, should reform and should invite, and [we] aim at a kind of market economy system that will be clearly carried out. [We] intend to reform in this way so that prominent economic benefits will spread out to all of the people [of Myanmar] all the way to the basic [lowest] classes and each and every [person] is able to share in and experience [these benefits]. [We] will enact the necessary policies and promulgate laws so that the entire people's social economic life raises and develops in that way," said [U Thein Sein].

The government aims at a kind of market economy system that helps maintain the whole extent [of the people]. President U Thein Sein promised that [the aim of the new government] is not a kind of wish to restrain the freedoms of the market, [but rather it is] an intention to keep [the situation] straight so that [a situation] does not arise where capitalists, wealthy people and privileged people dominate; and [it is] an intention to carry out and abide by [activities] that will minimise interference and control.
