Translation:

"Since Myanmar is an agricultural country, [such a farmers' union] is needed for the protection of farmer issues. Now, since the [NLD] assists what we want, we can get more strength. In order for [such a farmers' union] to disperse widely, we must work hard. We take pride in the fact that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is giving special consideration to what we want," said an anonymous farmer who is working hard for the emergence of a farmers' union.

In the NLD's past Labour Day declaration, [the following statement] was presented: In line with the promulgations of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), basic worker associations following the labour department are to be formed and a "Trade Union Congress" relevant to the whole country are to establish, which will always protect worker benefits.

It is known that [the NLD] has discussed with people who are agitating for the protection of workers' rights relevant to factories and offices and is supporting the many needs [of this labour rights struggle].

"However, what Daw Aung San Suu Kyi wants no political party to dominate these kinds of unions [and] associations," continued U Win Thein.

People working for the emergence of labour unions said that they will continue to strive hand-in-hand with the NLD for the emergence of legal unions. It is know that these people are working discreetly.

After NLD member Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was freed, she came to work with increased intensity on social assistance works, youth networking, lectures related to environmental conservation, works related to education, and such things.

It is know that starting this coming June, the NLD will give free education training courses to youth members who will complete 10th standard. Presently there are about 30 young people who will study [at the training course] and teachers from the NLD plan to teach.

The NLD has not yet encountered restrictions and criticism from the new government about these intense works for the strong emergence of grassroots associations for the development and flourishing of the Myanmar democratic system.

However, it is known that after the new government came in, one of the instructions given to the parties which participated in the election commission chairperson's election mentioned one illegal group, although the NLD was not explicitly referred to. That instruction was that political parties must not have contact with illegal associations.

The NLD decided to not participate in the 2010 election given by the SPDC military government and [so the NLD's] renewed registration to be legal according to the law was rejected.

In state-owned newspapers it was proclaimed that the Myanmar government's union ministers will word hand-in-hand with the ministers of the states and regions for the benefit of workers and farmers.
