Dagon Taya (1)

Translation:

One fragrant hazy night

The light of the moon was shinning outside.  The night was permeated with an intoxicating fragrance.

I caught myself gazing as I puffed on a cheroot.  An oil lamp case was hanging at the side of the window.  Smoke was passing by and winding around the lantern's mirror face.  A yellowish colour was radiating out.  When the lantern swayed as the wind blew, the white sheets of papers on the table fluttered fleetingly.

The lantern reflected the night outside in silver and diamond.  The green glass lantern was hung against the bright, cloudless, gloomy, clear blue sky. At the start of the night, the edge of the moon was scarlet.

I continued writing a novel entitled “Monsoon”.  Having been born and grown up in village in the Irrawaddy Delta, it had already been long that I had intended to write a novel based on that region.  However, because of many reasons, I had not written one.
